Situated close to the Excel Conference Centre and London City Airport in the London Borough of Newham, the site is the middle of three plots of the masterplan, all designated as hotels.
The building is a simple L shaped plan fronting the Royal Albert Docks, comprising a rational brickwork grid pattern and detailed recessed brick panels to break up the form. Working within design codes set out by the masterplan; the building creates maximum animation and interest to the street frontage, with deep reveals within the brick frame creating playful shadows as light moves across the site, changing the feel of building over the course of the day.
The high-quality scheme, sets the tone for future development across the business park and a new standard for the delivery of similar economy brand hotels.

This site was part of the wider Royals Business Park Masterplan and the Travelodge was the first building to come forward. Aros looked after our interests as client in managing the design aspirations of the Masterplan with the deliverability of the project. They produced an attractive yet efficient, commercially viable hotel building which at the same time met the established design codes in terms of its external appearance. There was extensive consultation with various stakeholders and Aros again managed this process in a helpful and proactive way.
