We have prepared a planning application for a residential led, mixed-use scheme ob Burlington Road, New Malden.
Design inspiration was drawn from the 1930's residential architecture immediately to the rear of the site and in the surorunding area which is a mix of suburban housing and more urban apartment blocks.
A strong use of red brick, a contrasting colour to the brickwork at upper levels, and the expression of the floor plates on balconies give a horizontal emphasis to the facades. This is further accentuated by the composition of landscape window openings on the projecting bays. These features have informed the design intent for the proposal, but in a contemporary manner with modern detailing. The robustness and solidity of the brickwork has also informed the material palette, which is paired with reconstituted stone panels for a contrast in texture whilst maintaining similar tones throughout.
